SHT15 Temperature and Humidity Sensor
SHT15 Digital temperature-humidity sensor(±2%)
The humidity sensors integrate sensor elements plus signal processing on a tiny footprint and provide a fully calibrated digital output.
A unique capacitive sensor element is used for measuring relative humidity, while temperature is measured by a band-gap sensor. Its CMOSens® technology guarantees excellent reliability and long-term stability.
The humidity sensors are seamlessly coupled to a 14-bit-analog-to-digital converter and a serial interface circuit. This results in superior signal quality, a fast response time, and insensitivity to external disturbances (EMC).
SHT15 working principle:
The chip consists of a capacitive polymer humidity sensitive element and a temperature sensitive element made of energy gap material. The two sensitive elements convert humidity and temperature into electrical signals, which are first amplified by a weak signal amplifier, then by a 14-bit A/D converter, and finally by a two-wire serial digital interface to output a digital signal.
The SHT15 is calibrated in a constant humidity or constant temperature environment before leaving the factory. The calibration coefficients are stored in the calibration register, which automatically calibrates the signals from the sensor during the measurement process.
In addition, the SHT15 has 1 heating element integrated inside, which can increase the temperature of the SHT15 by about 5°C when the heating element is switched on, while the power consumption is also increased. The main purpose of this function is to compare the temperature and humidity values before and after heating.
The performance of the two sensor elements can be verified together. In high humidity (>95% RH) environments, heating the sensor prevents sensor condensation while reducing response time and improving accuracy. After heating the SHT15 the temperature increases and the relative humidity decreases, resulting in a slight difference in the measured values compared to before heating.
The performance parameters of SHT15 are as follows:
1) Humidity measurement range: 0 to 100% RH;
2) Temperature measurement range: -40 to +123.8°C;
3) Humidity measurement accuracy: ±2.0% RH;
4) Temperature measurement accuracy: ±0.3°C;
5) Response time: 8 s (tau63%);
6) Fully submersible.
